The CPS was designed to generate high-frequency information on household welfare, health, and socioeconomic dynamics, and followed 758 households across Malawi. Participants were first recruited in January 2000 from a subsample of the Integrated Household Survey (IHS), which provided the sampling frame for the study. The cohort consisted of households that included men, women, and children, with data collected on their living conditions, health, and economic activities. Participants were revisited twice per year, with four rounds of data collected between January 2000 and September 2002.
