The CSAC study aims to understand both the short- and long-term outcomes of patients undergoing elective surgeries with general anesthesia. Launched in 2020 with an initial cohort of over 10,000 participants from West China Hospital, the study has since expanded to include 12,766 participants across another three medical centers in China: the First People’s Hospital of Longquanyi District, West China Tianfu Hospital, and the Second Hospital of Hebei Medical University. Initially, the study focused on patients undergoing non-cardiac surgeries, with an expansion to include cardiac surgeries in July 2021. At baseline, participants consisted of 57.93% females, comparative to 42.03% males, with a mean age of 52.40 years. Follow-up assessments occur at 1, 3, and 7 days post-surgery and then at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months, with ongoing monitoring to gather comprehensive long-term data.
