CTAAC investigated markers of chronic disease processes and progression in perinatally human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected adolescents on antiretroviral therapy (ART). Over 18 months from 2013, the study enrolled 515 HIV-infected adolescents on ART and 110 HIV-uninfected controls, aged 9 to 14 years, from eight sites around Cape Town, South Africa, as well as their caregivers. Participants were followed up every 6 months for 3 years.
