The Dande HDSS study began in 2009 to monitor the health and demographic dynamics of the population in Dande municipality, Bengo province, Angola. The cohort initially comprised over 59,000 residents from 15,579 households. The cohort consists of individuals of all ages, from infants to the elderly, reflecting the general population of the Dande municipality. Participants were recruited through an initial census conducted in 2009, with periodic updates to include new residents and births. Data on births, deaths, migrations, and causes of death were collected through quarterly visits until the end of 2011, and after that, follow-ups occurred periodically.
