As of April 2024, the DTR is one the oldest and largest twin registers globally and has evolved to encompass over 100,000 twin pairs from all birth cohorts since 1870 in Denmark, with comprehensive data collection methods ensuring accurate identification and tracing of twins. As of 2012, the DTR included almost over 85,000 twin pairs born between 1870 and 2009 throughout six separate cohorts of twins categorised by year of birth (i.e., 1870 - 1910, 1911 - 1930, 1931 - 1952, 1953 - 1967, 1968 - 1982, and 1983 - 2000), with over 105,000 twin individuals alive. Zygosity information is available for over 80% of pairs, and extensive health data has been collected.
