The DCH aimed to investigate the relations between specific dietary components, foods, nutrients, lifestyle, and the incidence of cancer and other chronic diseases. Participants initially included approximately 57,000 individuals aged 50 to 64 years from the greater Copenhagen and Aarhus areas in Denmark, recruited between 1993 and 19971. All participants living in Denmark approximately five years after the initial data collection received a follow-up questionnaire between 1999 and 2002, with over 44,000 individuals participating in the second data collection, while linkage follow-up was also ongoing throughout the study.
