The DCS aims to investigate non-communicable disease risk factors for people in Dena in southwest Iran. The DCS is part of the Prospective Epidemiological Research Studies in Iran (PERSIAN) cohort, which includes Iranians aged 35 to 70 years from 19 geographically distinct areas of Iran. Over 3,600 participants completed baseline assessments beginning in 2016. Participants will be followed up annually via phone and linked healthcare and mortality data. Physical assessments will be repeated at 5, 10 and 15 years after baseline. The study is planned to continue for 15 years.
