This study was conducted from 1991 to 2001 at the National Institute of Mental Health in the state of Maryland, United States of America. The study consisted of 152 children and adolescents with a diagnosis of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), aged between 5 and 18 years, as well as 139 age- and sex-matched controls. Participants were recruited from the local community and contributed 544 anatomic magnetic resonance images. Data from all scans were used to derive longitudinal growth curves for patients and controls of both sexes.
