Sample details

The DBC, also known as the Dabat HDSS, was established in 1996 within the Dabat district of northern Ethiopia. The Dabat HDSS site includes nine rural Kebeles (sub-districts) and four urban Kebeles covering over 21,000 households from three geo-climatic zones (cold, temperate and hot). After the baseline re-census of the Dabat site in 2008, each household has been visited and updated every six months to track events (death, birth, migration, and marital status changes) and update the population. In 2021, the Dabat HDSS was expanded to include sites in Gondar and Gorgora. As of 2024, the DRC collectively monitors 122,295 individuals: 77,898 in Dabat; 42,147 in Gondar; and 2,250 in Gorgora.
