Sample details

E3N-Generations is an extension of the Epidemiological Study of Women in the National Education (E3N) study which began in France in 1990. The study recruits the children, the fathers of the children, and the grandchildren of the original E3N cohort. Participants are split into 3 generations: the partners of the women in the original E3N cohort constitute generation 1 (G1), the children of the original E3N women are generation 2 (G2), and the children of generation 2 participants and grandchildren of E3N women make up generation 3 (G3). G1 men are only eligible to participate if they are the biological father of a G2 child. Recruitment is ongoing for all 3 generations. As of 2024, generation 1 has 18,000 participants, and generation 2 has 21,000 participants.
