The ECHILD Database encompasses all children and young people born between September 1, 1995, and August 31, 2020, who have records in the Hospital Episode Statistics (HES) or the National Pupil Database (NPD). These datasets cover the entire population of children and young people in England who receive state-funded health, education or social care services, regardless of their birthplace. More specifically, the HES records capture all hospital activities provided or funded by the National Health Service (NHS) in England, such as births, inpatient admissions, outpatient appointments, mental health and learning disabilities and Accident & Emergency (A&E) visits while the NPD records contain information on state-funded education and children's social care services. The ECHILD Database includes linked records from birth to age 24, and totals approximately 14.7 million individuals.
