The EDSP study, spanning over ten years and comprising three assessment waves, includes 3,021 adolescents and young adults aged 14–24. ts living in the Munich area, aged 14–24 years at baseline. The age range for the targeted population was chosen to address especially the early developmental stages of substance use, abuse and dependence and other mental disorders. The sample, drawn in November 1994 from Munich's population registry offices, was randomly selected to reflect the demographic distribution of individuals within the specified age range. Noteworthy features of the study involve its connections with family genetic inquiries and the inclusion of neuroendocrinological stress tests among high-risk participants.
