ELSI-Brazil is a longitudinal study of community-dwelling adults aged 50 years or older, residing in 70 municipalities located across the five great geographic regions of Brazil. The sample was chosen through a staged selection process across various municipalities, census tracts and households, ensuring geographic diversity and representation. The baseline data collection was carried out in 2015-16 with 9,412 participants. Participants are subsequently followed-up every 3-4 years with a sample refreshment at each wave to ensure its national representativeness.
