Sample details

The EstMB cohort was established in 2017, as a sub-cohort of the larger Estonian Biobank (EstBB) cohort, when intestinal and oral microbiome samples were collected from 2,509 EstBB participants, aged 23–89 years. The vast majority of the EstMB cohort are of Estonian origin (98.4%), and the majority (70%) are female. Participants are from all 15 Estonian counties, although the majority originate from two counties where most of the Estonian population is located: Tartu County (28.3%) and Harju County (25.3%). Participants are followed-up through linkage to electronic health records and data collected as part of the EstBB.
