The EU-GEI study gathered extensive data starting in 2010, examining variations in schizophrenia incidence across European countries, urban areas, and minority ethnic groups, as well as the influence of genetic and environmental factors on psychotic disorders. The study included 1,130 individuals experiencing their first episode of psychosis, as well as nearly 1,500 controls. Participants were individuals presenting to one of the 17 participating centres in six countries (England, the Netherlands, France, Spain, Italy, and Brazil). Participants were subsequently followed at regular intervals throughout the 5‑year study period to enable consistent tracking of clinical, social, cognitive, and biological trajectories.
