EVA follows a cohort of highly cognitive functioning individuals born between 1922 and 1932 residing in the town of Nantes, France. The participants were community residents and their spouses were also asked to participate if they were in the desirable age group (59–71 years at inception). The first wave of data collection took place between 1991 and 1993, and participants were followed periodically for the next 9 years until 2001.
