The FACHS is a multi-site, longitudinal study of over 800 families with a child in fifth grade (9-11 years), living in Georgia and Iowa neighborhoods in 1997-1998. Using 1990 Census data, areas were identified based on neighborhood composition where 10% or more of the population were African American families and 20–100% of the children in these families lived in poverty. Since participants were recruited, data has been collected every 2-3 years.
