FCOU, the Ukrainian component of the European Longitudinal Study of Pregnancy and Childhood (ELSPAC), is a prospective birth cohort study that was initiated in 1992 to evaluate the pregnancy outcomes of around 8,000 women and their offspring in Ukraine. Pregnant women were recruited from six sites within five cities in Ukraine: Kyiv (Left bank and Right bank); Dniprodzerzhynsk; Mariupol; Ivano-Frankivsk; and Krasny Louch. The cohort consists of children born between 1993 and 1996, and their mothers. Participants were followed up using the ELSPAC study protocol which traced the children from delivery to 7 years of age. Children from four of the sites continued to be followed-up until around 18 years of age.
