The purpose of the FCR is to collect data on the activities of health centres, hospitals, and other institutions providing inpatient care in Finland and on the clients treated in them as well as on home-nursing clients for the purposes of statistics, research, and planning. Data on approximately 1.7 million individuals are reported to the Care Register for Health Care every year, and the number of periods of care reported amounts to over 1.5 million every year. Over 6 million outpatient visits in specialised health care are also reported to the register every year.
