The FHS began in 1948 and aims to identify common factors or characteristics that contribute to cardiovascular disease. The FHS has been expanded to become a multigenerational study and to include diverse populations so that risk factors in these different groups can be understood. The NOS cohort includes just over 100 participants who were children of the FHS Original cohort, are parents of the Third Generation cohort, and were not previously enrolled in the Offspring cohort in Massachusetts, United States of America. Participants began baseline assessment in 2003 and have participated in three exams in total. The most recent wave of exams ended in 2019.
