The Fletcher Challenge–University of Auckland Heart and Health Study was a cohort study of 6,354 adults from New Zealand, designed to investigate cardiovascular risk factors and outcomes. Participants were recruited in 1992-1993 from two sources: 4,575 employees of the Fletcher Challenge Limited corporation and 1,779 individuals from the Auckland metropolitan electoral rolls. The cohort included adults aged 35 to 74 years without prior cardiovascular events, and comprised 10% Māori, 5% Pacific peoples, and 85% European or other ethnicity. Participants were followed up once over five years, with cardiovascular hospitalisation and mortality data collected via linkage to national health and death registries between 1992/3 and 1996/7.
