The FHS - Original Cohort was designed to investigate the risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Participants were adults aged 29 to 62 years from Framingham, Massachusetts, in the United States of America, recruited in 1948. At baseline, over 5,000 participants were included in the study. Participants were followed up 32 times between 1948 and 2014, when the study ended. The FHS Offspring and third-generation cohorts follow the children and grandchildren of the FHS - Original Cohort members.
