GAGE is a programme conducting longitudinal research in several developing countries, with three workstreams in Ethiopia. GAGE’s second study in Ethiopia is a mixed-methods longitudinal study following more than 2,000 adolescents living in two pastoralist regions (Afar and Somali) to explore female social and economic empowerment, especially regarding the risks of FGM and child marriage. The sample includes 2,042 households, split equally between Afar and Somali. In each household, a caregiver and an adolescent (aged 10-19 at baseline) were surveyed across three rounds of data collection from 2022 to 2026.
