The Generation R Study is a multi-ethnic, population-based cohort study tracking individuals from fetal life to adulthood to understand the environmental and genetic factors influencing normal and abnormal growth, development, and health. Participants included mothers residing in the study area with expected delivery dates between April 2002 and January 2006. Ethnicity was determined by the country of birth of the participant and their parents through Statistics Netherlands' classification. Non-Dutch ethnic origin was attributed to participants with at least one parent born abroad, with the mother's birthplace taking precedence. Among the children, 49% were female.
