GGHDSS was established in 2005 and is located in the surroundings of the Gilgel Gibe Hydroelectric dam within four districts of Jimma Zone, Oromia Region, Southwest Ethiopia. The purpose of this surveillance system is to monitor basic vital events indicators and generate relevant health, demographic and socioeconomic information for policies and programs. The population of this dataset includes all residents of the GGHDSS surveillance site, including over 13,500 households in 2005. Data was collected once a year from 2005 to 2010 and twice a year since 2011.
