GINIplus is a prospective population-based birth cohort study. Healthy, mature newborns with German parents were recruited from obstetric hospitals between September 1, 1995 and October 31, 1997 in Munich or until June 30, 1998 in Wesel. The aim of the GINIplus study was initially to investigate whether early childhood nutrition can influence the development of allergic diseases and also to observe the natural course of atopic diseases. As the children became older, other research topics were added (e.g., mental well-being, lung function, nutrition, weight, and physical activity). Participants were followed-up since birth at 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 10, 15, 20, and at 25 years of age, as well as during the COVID-19 pandemic.
