DARTS started in 1996, aiming to identify all patients with diabetes within the wider Tayside region in Scotland, United Kingdom, through electronic record linkage. In 1998, consenting patients within this electronic database, as well as healthy controls, were recruited to the Genetics of DARTS (GoDARTS) via General Practitioners (GPs) and Clinics. GoDARTS have access to medical healthcare data dating back to 1987, to the present.
