GRIPS is a prospective cohort study that investigated the risk factors of myocardial infarction (heart attack) in males. The baseline investigation in 1982 included around 6,000 men, aged 40 to 60 years, from Göttingen, Germany. Over 5,700 participants who were free of cardiovascular disease at baseline were prospectively followed up for 10 years to record causes of morbidity and mortality, with a response rate of 97.4%.
