The GUHPS aims to collect information on incomes, education, labour market experience, household characteristics, and subjective well-being of a roughly representative sample of urban labour markets in Ghana. Around 800 participants aged 15 to 60 were sampled in the four largest urban centres of Ghana: Accra (and neighbouring Tema), Kumasi, Takoradi, and Cape Coast. Baseline data collection occurred in 2003 and 2004, with annual follow-up waves until 2013.
