Sample details

HCHS aims to identify previously unknown risk factors for the most common diseases such as heart attacks, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, stroke and dementia. The study collects data from a random sample of 45,000 participants between 45 and 74 years of age from the general population of Hamburg, Germany. Baseline assessment began in 2016 and participants will be followed-up annually through a mail questionnaire and linked healthcare/mortality data. After 6 years, all participants will be invited to repeat the baseline measures.
