The HCP data collection is a legislated data collection for all private health insurance-funded admitted patient separations (i.e., discharges) in Australia, for which private health insurers have paid benefits. The data is collected by public and private hospitals, including day facilities, and then supplied to private health insurers, who in turn then submit the data to the Department of Health and Aged Care. HCP data covers privately insured admitted patients and includes de-identified clinical information (using a patient care classification system), demographic information, and financial information.
