This study aimed to provide an accurate and contemporary measurement of the healthcare resource utilisation in people with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), namely ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD). It also aimed to provide estimates of infection incidence in this population and the prevalence of common mental health conditions. Participants were adults registered with general practices contributing to the Royal College of General Practitioners Research and Surveillance Centre (RCGP RSC) database in the United Kingdom from 2016 to 2019. Retrospective healthcare records from almost 20,000 participants with a diagnosis of UC or CD and over 76,000 matched controls were accessed.
