The Heart of Soweto Study was established to study the emerging causes and consequences of cardiovascular disease in the area of Soweto, South Africa. Included within the study are a prospective clinical registry of pre-existing cases of heart disease, alongside a more detailed clinical registry of newly diagnosed cases of heart disease, with over 12,000 patients attending the cardiac clinic and Coronary Care Unit at the Baragwanath Hospital included in total.
