HEPCARE is a community-based study situated in Jiangsu Province, China. It aims to investigate the progression of disease from diagnosis of hepatitis B virus (HBV) to end-stage liver disease, and explore the genetic and environmental risk factors for HBV. The study recruited participants from 2009 to 2023, enrolling individuals with a diagnosis of HBV or chronic hepatitis B virus. Approximately 7,000 participants were diagnosed through serosurveys conducted at baseline in 2009 and were included in the cohort. Since enrollment, the study has conducted 7 rounds of follow-ups, occurring every 1 to 2 years, with the most recent being in 2023.
