The High-Risk Study of Bipolar Disorder is a longitudinal, prospective investigation of individuals at risk for bipolar disorder (BP) and related disorders. The cohort consists of adolescents aged 12 to 21 years, with (n = 141) and without (n = 91) family members (probands) with a diagnosis of BP and related disorders. Probands' diagnoses represent a lifetime DSM-IV diagnosis of either BPI (n = 126 adolescents related to 78 probands), BPII with recurrent major depression (n = 10 adolescents related to 6 probands), or schizoaffective disorder, bipolar type (n = 5 adolescents related to 4 probands). Data was collected between 2006 and 2009.
