The Hisayama Study is a population-based cohort study conducted in Hisayama town, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. The 1988 Cohort began in 1988 and included over 2,600 participants aged 40 or older from Hisayama town. Participants included approximately 75% of the town's residents aged 40 or older. Participants are followed up every 5 years through health examinations and interviews, until death or until the end of the Hisayama study.
