The ICS2 aimed to investigate the association of various lifestyle behaviours, anthropometric measurements, and biochemical markers with the risk of diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancer. Participants include three generations of people living in Isfahan and Najafabad, Iran. Over 2,800 participants made up the first generation, which included participants from the original ICS study and newly recruited participants. The second generation was 2,500 children of the first generation and the third generation included 1,000 grandchildren of the first generation. Over 6,000 participants in total completed baseline assessment in 2013 and have been followed up every two years until 2023.
