Sample details

The ILS investigated the phenomenology and classification of schizophrenia by examining various clinical and sociodemographic factors. The study began in 1987 and included approximately 500 first-episode schizophrenia patients, recruited from admissions to the University of Iowa Psychiatry Inpatient Service, in the United States of America. Patients were followed up at 6-month intervals, with MRI scans repeated at follow-up assessments after 2, 5, and 9 years, and every 3 years thereafter.
