This study aimed to investigate the radiation risks of fluoroscopy-guided interventional (FGI) procedures on physicians. The study used registry data from the American Medical Association (AMA) Physician Masterfile to construct two cohorts for comparison. The first cohort consisted of over 45,000 physicians who perform FGI procedures (FGI MDs) from across the United States of America, and the comparison cohort consisted of over 64,000 psychiatrists from across the United States of America. Participants were followed up through linked administrative data and registers from January 1979 until age 85 years, loss to follow-up, death or December 2008, whichever came earliest. The cause of death was ascertained from the National Death Index.
