The Israeli Ministry of Health maintains a psychiatric case register that includes basic demographic and clinical information for all psychiatric hospital admissions since 1950 in Israel. Between 1950 and 1999, the names of about 130,000 patients were entered into the psychiatric case register. Approximately 16,000 hospitalizations are recorded annually, including around 4,000 first-time admissions whose names are added to the register. The Israeli psychiatric case register covers primarily inpatient services, including information pertaining to the hospitalizations of adults and children in psychiatric hospitals and in the psychiatric departments of general hospitals. Overall, 34 institutions are required by law to report information to the psychiatric case register.
