JAHEAD/NSJE is a nationally representative longitudinal study of Japanese adults aged 60 years and above. In 1987, the survey initially recruited participants aged 60 to 93 years using a stratified random sampling method. Since inception, supplemental samples of adults aged 60 to 65 years have been recruited. All participants are followed approximately every three to six years since recruitment, with the tenth survey taking place in 2021.
