JPHC-NEXT follows a group of adults in Japan to identify risk factors for lifestyle-related diseases and factors that extend healthy life expectancy. Participants aged 40 - 74 were recruited from 16 municipalities across Japan in Iwate, Akita, Nagano, Ibaraki, Kochi, Ehime and Nagasaki prefectures. At baseline, over 100,000 participants were included in the study. The cohort consists of slightly more females than males. JPHC-NEXT participants are followed up every 5 years, and there are plans to continue follow-up for at least 20 years.
