Sample details

The JYLS aimed to examine the underlying factors and mechanisms that predict mental well-being throughout the lifetime, focusing on emotional and behavioural regulation. TRAILS is the most recent phase of the JYLS centred on later adulthood, and the life transitions that come with this period. The original sample comprised 12 complete school classes (196 boys, 173 girls) drawn randomly from the schools of a medium-sized town in Central Finland. The participants were about 8 years old at baseline and were followed up at ages 14, 20, 27, 36, 42, and 50. The most recent data collection, known as Transitions at Age 60: Individuals Navigating Across the Lifespan (TRAILS), was implemented from 2020 to 2021 when the same participants were around age 60.
