The KoGES Ansan and Ansung Study is a community-based cohort study involving residents of Korea recruited from an industrialised community located southwest of the capital city of Seoul, Ansan, and from a rural area in the south of Seoul, Ansung. Registered inhabitants were randomly selected and contacted via mail, telephone, or home visits. More than 10,000 participants aged 40 to 69 years were voluntarily enrolled at baseline between 2001 and 2002. The follow-up examinations were conducted at every 2-year intervals.
