Sample details

The KoGES emigrant study consists of individuals who have emigrated from Korea to Japan and China, as well as native Japanese and Chinese participants. Only emigrants aged over 30 who emigrated more than 15 years ago were included in the study. The cities that had a large Korean population and a long immigration history were selected for this study, including Osaka and Kobe in Japan and Yanbian and Changchun in China. From 2005 to 2011, over 3,500 participants were enrolled. Approximately 72% of the baseline Japanese participants were re-examined during the first follow-up; the second and third follow-up rates were 51.7% and 49.0%, respectively.
