The KReIS aims to understand the life and retirement preparation of middle-aged and older adults. The cohort consists of members of households in South Korea, with at least one member of each household aged 50 or older. At baseline in 2005, the KReIS surveyed over 8,500 individuals from approximately 5,100 households, selected from a sample of non-institutionalized and urban residents aged 50 years and older in the Korean Population and Housing Census in 2000. Follow-up surveys are conducted every other year.
