The L.A.FANS investigates how neighbourhoods affect a variety of outcomes, including children’s development and well-being, and stress and health among children and adults. Between 2000 and 2001, Wave 1 assessed adults and children living in over 3,000 households in 65 neighbourhoods in Los Angeles County, California, United States of America. In Wave 2, between 2006 and 2008, families who remained in the neighbourhood or moved elsewhere were followed up, as well as new families who moved into these neighbourhoods. Wave 3 was carried out as part of the Mixed Income Project (MIP) between 2011 and 2013, which was based on samples of participants in two surveys: L.A.FANS Wave 2 and the Project on Human Development in Chicago Neighborhood (PHDCN).
