The LIFE-Heart, initially named the LE-Heart study, was set up to contribute to the understanding of the heterogeneity of coronary artery disease (CAD) and the impact of molecular-genetic, lifestyle, and environmental risk factors. All participants were recruited at the Heart Center Leipzig in Germany, which is one of the largest cardiology centers worldwide and with a catchment area covering several German states. Nearly 7,000 participants (5,025 male, 1,969 female, with an age range of 23 to 89 years) were included in the baseline assessments.
