LIFECARE is a longitudinal study comprising four contributing sub-cohorts from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand. These countries were chosen as each of them suffers from a high cardiovascular disease (CVD) burden, ranging from 29% of proportional mortality due to CVDs in Thailand to 37% in Indonesia for 2014, and they are among the most populous countries in Southeast Asia. At baseline data collection in 2011, over 10,000 18- to 50-year-old participants from urban and semi-urban areas were recruited, with two cycles of follow-up at 3- to 5-year intervals.
