LifeGene is a prospective, population-based study of over 52,000 participants in Sweden. The study randomly sampled 'index persons' aged 18 to 45 years from the general population, who were subsequently invited to include their partners and any children from their household. Individuals who spontaneously registered for participation were also included in the sample. The study also oversampled twins from the Swedish twin registry, who were screened with a similar instrument to the LifeGene questionnaire.
